Is the cat a difficult animal when it comes to food? Hmmm no! Finally … Just a little … There is nothing more annoying than having to throw out whole sachets of food every day because Monsignor Cat did not even deign to taste it. On the other hand, when you take out the box of tuna or salmon from the fridge, there is no need to pray to throw yourself on it. And for good reason, the cat is much more sensitive to the level of smell than to the level of taste, unlike humans. But then, which foods does he prefer? And what tastes does he particularly like?
Above all, the cat is a carnivore, most of the food it prefers being the same as that which its mother preferred when she was a kitten. So, often give cooked meat to your cat by varying the pleasures in order to know what he prefers: ground beef, chicken breast, turkey breast…
Furthermore, fish, contrary to popular belief, is not necessarily recommended for cats because it is often too salty or too rich. So be sure to give your cat cooked fish only once or twice a week as a treat, this will be more than enough.
Croquettes and boxes
The cat likes to eat very wet or very dry food . Prefer therefore the croquettes (without cereals) at each meal as well as the jelly or sauce boxes. In terms of tastes, everything depends on the cat, so it is advisable to make several tests before finding the brands that suit your tomcat.
A little advice: prefer boxes with pieces of food , the cat is not a lover of “food” in the proper sense of the term.
A good temperature
If the color of the food does not matter, the temperature on the other hand is of capital importance. The cat prefers to eat its food at room temperature (therefore lukewarm) rather than cold. In fact, when hunting in the wild, they eat prey at high body temperature. Thus, it is recommended to take food out of the fridge beforehand before giving it to your cat.
In addition, a cat will refuse to eat food even slightly oxidized. So be sure to give it only fresh food and do not keep it for more than 24 hours once opened.
No sugar but a little milk
Some cats like to lick the jars of sweet yogurt at the end of our meals. But make no mistake, it is not the sugar they like, but the milk. Indeed, cats do not distinguish sweet , unlike acid, salty, bitter and sweet.
If your cat is not allergic to milk , you can from time to time offer him some special cat milk or low-salt and low-calorie cheese. But beware, at the slightest sign of poor digestion (diarrhea, vomiting), immediately stop dairy products.
